How to crochet a cow step by step amigurumi tutorial

Learn how to crochet this super cute amigurumi cow in this easy to follow tutorial. With basic crochet skills and a few tools you can make your own crochet cow!

A couple years ago we had a holstein cow named Daisy Mae. She was sassy, lovable and full of character. She is my inspiration for this crochet cow design. It displays her personality with the vibrant cupcake sprinkle pattern. Let’s dive in!

Supplies you will need to crochet a cow

• Chunky yarn in 3 colors: Main color, Accent color, and Horn color. I’m using Premier Parfait Pom Pom Chunky yarn in color Neon Lights (black accent color), Let’s glow (white main color), and Parfait chunky in toffee (horn color).
• 5.00mm crochet hook
• stitch markers
• yarn needle
• safety eyes: I like 18mm but use whatever size you like
• stuffing I use polyfil
• double pointed knitting needles (optional to hold pieces in place while sewing)
• scissors

sbo special bobble stitch: *yo, insert hook into stitch, pull yarn through, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook* Repeat 5 times then yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook.

Crochet Cow instructions

Arms (make 2)

Round 1 with accent color 8sc in mr. 8sc
Round 2-3 sc around. 8sc
Round 4 with main color *2sc, dec* repeat 2 times total. 6sc
Round 5-10 sc around. 6sc
sl st into first sc and Fasten off

Legs

Round 1 with accent color 6sc in mr. 6sc
Round 2 6inc. 12sc
Round 3 sc around. 12sc (in last stitch of this round change to main color)
Round 4-5 with main color sc around. 12sc
sl st into first sc and fasten off.
Make 2nd leg the same but do not sl st or fasten off after round 5.

Body

You’re going to join the legs but sc around together.
Round 6 sc around both legs for total of 24sc
Round 7-15 sc around. 24sc
Sew up the hole in the crotch and stuff the legs and body.
Mark with stitch markers where the arms will be worked in. They will be crochet into the next round. Mark them 3 stitches on each side and 9 stitches between the front and back of the arms.
Round 16 sc around going through both the arm stitches and the round stitches to sc them together where you marked.
Round 17 12dec. 12sc
sl st into first sc and fasten off

Head

with main color
Round 1 8sc in mr
Round 2 8inc. 16sc
Round 3 *1sc, inc* repeat 8 times total. 24sc
Round 4 *5sc, inc* repeat 4 times total. 28sc
Round 5-10 sc around. 28sc
Round 11 *5sc, dec* repeat 4 times total. 24sc
Round 12 12dec. 12sc
place safety eyes between rows 6 and 7 about 4-5 stitches apart. You can hot glue them on once you are finished sewing the nose on for more accurate placement.
cut yarn, leave long tail for sewing head onto body and pull last stitch through. Stuff head and sew onto body.

Nose

with accent colro Ch 6
Round 1 2sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3sc, 3sc in last ch. continue around to the back of the ch. 2sc, 1sc in last ch.
Round 2 coutinue around. 2sc in first st, 2sc in next st, 4sc, 2sc in next st, 2sc in next st, 5sc. 16sc
Round 3 sc around. 16sc
sl st into first sc and fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Horns

about half an inch from the center of the top of the head attach yarn for horn color with a sl st. ch1, sbo, ch1, sl st back into same space as the sbo. Weave tail to the back to meet the yarn tail from the 2nd horn.
Repeat steps for 2nd horn. Tie ends together and stuff inside head.

Ears (make 2)

Round 2 6inc. 12sc
Round 3 5sc, inc, inc, 5sc. sl st into first sc and fasten off. Leave long tail to sew ear onto head.
